Gothic-chic runner

Do they remind you of the night sky?  My dad sent my mom, sister, and me to a fancy spa yesterday.  And I want to give a big smooch to whomever started the whole black nail polish trend.  Gothic-chic runner with bruised toenails?  The sparkles were my sister’s idea.  Asa told me he liked red toenails better, but that the sparkles were “good.”  I’m sure the woman who worked on my feet is waking up this morning with sore arms.  Poor girl, she did some hard work with the foot file.  I did a lot of apologizing.  Now I’m really  hoping I do well at Bandera, so I can take a barefoot picture afterwards for Drymax.  Drymax gave me a generous supply of socks to train and race in, but I’ve never taken a post-race foot picture to show how well they take care of my feet.  I’ve always felt too shy about the toenail exposure.  Until now!

I wish I had my phone with me yesterday to record the vampire TV show discussion my sister had with the women working on our feet.  I sat there trying to remember all the information that was flying around (like the callused skin off my feet), but it was just too much.

(Did he turn into a werewolf then too?

No, a wereTIGER!

What!?!

I know!)

They talked vampire TV for a good 20 minutes — through the callus filing right into the sugar leg scrub.  I nodded and smiled and tried to look shocked at the appropriate intervals, but I think they could sense I didn’t have a TV.  At one point, I lamely said, “Oh, I think my husband said he saw that one once.”

The best conversation I actually took part in was with the massage therapist guy.  (Brazilian, studying theology, two kids 9 and 11).  He was giving me a hard time about not stretching.  He was pretty good too; I was almost convinced by his toxin removal, muscle memory, oxygenation, injury-free harangue.  Maybe it was just the Brazilian accent.  I’m a sucker for accented information.  I told him that I was just too tired at then end of the day to lie down and stretch.  He said, “You need to drink a little Red Bull first.”

“Isn’t that a bit counterproductive as far as toxin removal goes?

“No, Red Bull is processed by the body very quickly.  Just make sure to drink a liter of water afterwards.”

Whatever buddy.  Then he told me about how Brazilian children grew up drinking lattes.

Eliot just came down into the living room, so I’ll sign off so we can watch the local morning news.  There’s something riveting about watching local news here.  Jelly fish alert at Waikiki today.  “Now lets take a look at some footage of the blizzard conditions in other parts of the country this morning and remember why we’re thankful we live here in Hawaii.”
